Why is the Demand for Digital Wallet and Mobile Payment App on the Rise?
CIO Review APAC | Friday, August 06, 2021

Digital wallets and mobile payment apps allow people to streamline and secure the way they make payments.
FREMONT, CA: Digital wallets and mobile payment apps are becoming increasingly popular. On a mobile device, a digital wallet enables customers to carry more than what they would have in their physical wallet. In addition, apps for making payments are also becoming increasingly popular.
Since the COVID-19 outbreak, most people have begun to utilize cash applications more frequently. People, especially those who are unbanked or underbanked, can use digital wallets to expand their payment methods and convert the actual currency to an online account, which they can then link to these services.

The Advantages and Risks of a Digital Wallet and Mobile Payment App
People can streamline their payments and what they need to take with them to buy things with digital wallets and mobile payment apps. Consumers can use both types of apps to conduct purchases without using cash while keeping their banking account information and passwords safe.
Security techniques such as two-factor authentication and one-time-use PIN codes are used in digital wallets. They also employ strong encryption and virtualization techniques to ensure that users' financial data is never transmitted outside of their devices.
This does not rule out the possibility of criminals targeting users. Utilizing screen locks and device passwords or biometrics to keep a device safe is critical, as is the capability to remotely deactivate a smart device if it is lost or stolen. In addition, if a thief acquires access to a person's digital wallet, they may be able to make purchases or steal money from them.
There is still the possibility of being misled into a traditional product or service fraud. Users of digital wallets and payment apps should exercise caution and only make transactions that are part of a purchase or financial transfer that they initiate.
What Should People do to Stay Safe?
- To prevent hackers from accessing the digital wallet, payment apps, or stealing login credentials or money, activate every security measure such as screen lock/biometric lock and Find My iPhone.
- To minimize the chance of hacking, use a strong password and good cyber hygiene or security practices on every account. Consumers should use a password that is at least 12 characters long, according to the Identity Theft Resource Center (ITRC).
Look for red signs, such as payments made outside of the payment apps. If someone has been hacked, they must report it to the app, change their account password, and run antivirus software on their device.
