Tech giant Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) is reportedly researching how to add gyroscopes to its augmented reality (AR) headsets, providing users with continuous haptic feedback that will feel real.
FREMONT, CA: According to reports, tech giant Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) is looking into ways to include gyroscopes into its augmented reality (AR) headsets, giving consumers constantly, realistic-feeling haptic input. The business aims to at least take a tiny step toward integrating haptics to improve AR experiences, according to a recently granted patent.
According to Apple, haptic engines are a crucial component of XR Extended Reality, or AR/virtual reality, as they give users tangible sensations that improve their immersive experiences. However, most haptic engines used in smartphones and other mobile devices only deliver vibrations along a single axis.

Apple notes that although this is helpful for notification applications, the occasional tap is different from the constant torque or force that a head-mounted display (HMD) may offer. The tech giant stated that the gyroscopic precession engine can be mounted to, or included in, HMD. Or another wearable gadget to provide spatial guidance in VR and AR applications. The next AR headsets from the tech giant may use iris scanning to identify users rather than Face ID or Touch ID.
Apple is looking into how to incorporate gyroscopes into its augmented reality headsets to provide continuous, immersive haptic feedback. Virtual reality can show anything it wants, but the level of immersion is limited if a user is not feeling anything. VR games are often paired with treadmills. And it is the reason why certain movie theatres will shake seats in an utterly pointless effort to make feel as though are actually participating in the automobile chase are watching.

The patent does, however, focus on HMDs in the end, more especially on employing a gyroscopic precession engine to provide haptic feedback. A constant torque/force on a user's head/neck or other body parts that is synchronised with visual material can be applied by spinning gyroscopes.
