Leveraging Green Power to Operate Data Centres

Data centers in today’s digital-first world have become the operational cornerstone for businesses everywhere. They vary in size and complexity, but one undeniable factor that applies to all data centers is their need for large amounts of energy. However, delivering the same with efficient and, most importantly, sustainable electricity use can prove challenging. The company today develops and sells hardware, including GPU and CPU servers and containerized data centers that generate green computing power. Subsequently, the company collaborated with prominent investors in wind energy production to utilize surplus green power for computing power and temperature management within data centers. More interestingly, since energy generated from windmills at night often goes unused and is available at relatively lower prices, Morgenrot capitalized on the opportunity to reduce its carbon footprint further. Morgenrot, through such intuitive practices, succeeds in providing affordable data center solutions to each client.
With its distributed processing platform, Excalibur, the company helps enterprises disseminate tasks among its container-type data centers. Excalibur receives many computing tasks from the client, and each data center GPU facilitates them with remote control server features and optimized data processing. Morgenrot also provides a distributed computer rendering solution: Render Pool. The proprietary cloud computer graphics (CG) rendering service is deployed in the video production industry, where it drastically reduces rendering duration while uploading original data in real-time. Calculations are performed on servers distributed across different locations via Excalibur, and the results are then downloaded upon completion.

Over the years, Morgenrot’s customized computing solution has helped clients immensely to meet their specific needs. For instance, a longstanding animation studio in Japan leveraged Morgenrot’s Render Pool solution to upload their massive data sets onto the cloud, and Render Pool distributed computer graphics tasks among Morgenrot’s servers. The client observed that they could save more time; Nishikawa and her team also empowered each project member to track their teammate’s progress via Render Pool.

Morgenrot operates over 1,000 servers and plans to expand across Japan’s borders. The company is set to offer this computing power across all industries, such as auto and industrial designs, medical, and various R&D fields. Morgenrot’s idea to build green data centers worldwide based on renewable energy and surplus power is a harbinger of change in the relationship between electricity and data centers.
